Reversi, Othello or Yang is a game between two people, who share 64 identical cards of different faces, which in turn are placed on a board divided into 64 squares. The faces of the cards are distinguished by their color and each player is assigned one of those colors, who won more chips on the board to finish the game. It is classified as a board game, abstract and territorial like the go and the Amazons .

The average mobility for a player along the game is 8 movements. As in total can be made 60 moves, the maximum number of possible games is about 10 54. Moreover, the maximum number of possible positions is estimated at around 10 30.

Its origins lie in England in the nineteenth century, where Londoners Waterman and John W. Lewis Mollett marketed in 1880, each game rules are very similar.

In 1971 Goro Hasegawa Japanese changed two rules of the game and registered under the name of Othello , inspired by Shakespeare's play of the same name. (" Othello "in Spanish.)

Currently only playing with the rules of Othello (Castilian language also uses the name of Othello, and in Argentina under the trade name of "Yang"), but often refer to these rules under the name of reversible and not used never the original rules of reversible, although it will explain later.

Since 1977, World Championship play Othello in which three players can participate by country (or four in the case of the host country if there is an odd number of players), if the number of players allowed by the Swiss system is used. To set the winning team (from 1987) counts the number of points of the three players in the country.

The Othello creates interest from developers because of the simplicity of its rules: Only one type of movement, a single type of chips, etc.. The first tournament was in 1979 between programs.
